The key difference between the two monitors is the overall monitor design. Autocue’s unique Master Series monitor design minimises the footprint under the panel itself, which means a weight savings on the MSP-17 of almost 20%. That's nearly 1kilogram, or roughly 2 pounds lighter when compared to Autoscript’s TFT-17. The Autocue design also allows for in-board – and much neater – cable management versus Autoscript’s TFT range, reducing the risk of cables being knocked out. Total On-Camera Weight The Autocue Pro Plate is also much lighter than Autoscript’s Mount Black. Combined with the monitor weight savings, the complete "Autocue Master Series 17 with medium wide angle hood and pro plate" is 1.6 kilograms, or 3 and a half pounds, lighter than the "Autoscript TFT-17 with extra wide angle hood and mount black." This can result in valuable savings in the cost of the fluid head. Mounting the Teleprompter The tripod shoe and camera are easily connected directly to the Autocue mounting plate, with no external parts or difficult access points. The hood assembly simply drops on to the mounting plate, and is automatically centred. The Autoscript unit must be lined up and slid on from the side, and centred manually. On the Autocue system, adjusting the position of both the camera and the teleprompter is simple and easy. The rods that hold the teleprompter and the camera mounting plate all have a wide range of movement, and slide continuously back and forth without the need for any tools. On the Autoscript system, it is possible to adjust the length of the rods within a certain range, however, to change the position of the rods and adjust the range, they must be unscrewed using an allen key and moved in to one of a limited number of pre-set positions. The same is true of the camera mounting plate, which has no continuous range of movement. It is also critical that the camera, and its weight, are mounted as close to the tripod head as possible, to avoid a pendulum effect when panning and tilting. This is only possible if, once the camera is mounted, the vertical height of the hood and the monitor can be adjusted accordingly so that the lens sits directly in the centre of the glass. Otherwise, the camera must be raised in order to centre the lens in the glass. On the Autocue system, the vertical height of both the monitor and the hood can be easily adjusted, so the camera is always mounted flush to the mounting plate and tripod head. On the Autoscript system, the height of the monitor is fixed and very close to the height of the camera mounting plate, so there is a 70mm, or nearly 3 inch, riser on the mount black to raise the height of the camera, in order to centre the lens in the glass. This raises the center of gravity, causing the pendulum effect. The Hood and Glass All Autocue on-camera units also include wide-angle hoods as standard, at no extra cost, in order to accommodate wide-angle lenses. The Autoscript glass is retained by a metal strip with 4 screws. Whereas the Autocue hood has a hinged frame for the glass which is held in place by a single latch, allowing easy access either to clean or change the glass or to change the camera lens.
