LiveStream Studio HD550 Production Switcher Review

Switcher/Mixer streaming and recording- for Rent
Roger on 15/May/2017

We are an event company in Singapore, we do have event 2-3 times a year for our important client who require us to provide the streaming services to several different locations
The requirement for the streaming  was to send the title tag, logo and sometimes the sub-title. As more than 2 cameras will be deployed thus we need to do mixing and switching.

The livestream HD550 met our this requirement perfectly, however as we need the equipment not more than 2/3 times a year thus it would be economical for us to have it rented than owning it.
Many thanks to Expandore who assisted us to have this HD550 rented for 1-2 days, in additional Expandore also got us a professional operators to manage the equipment for the whole event.

We will continue to explore this business model as it does make sense to us.

This is what I have discovered after getting used of this HD550
: Advantages of Using Livestream over Tricaster
- Lower price point, Livestream 550 supplied with a labeled keyboard as standard while with Tricaster does not. You will need to operate them Using their unique control console
- Support up to 10 network inputs, while Tricaster does 2.
- Live interview feature is included free of charge , while with Tricaster you have to purchase a Newtek Talkshow ($ 3,995 US MSRP)
- Live stream integrated with a much more flexible graphics player, you can create as many layer as you wish in Just one graphics player. While in Tricaster you can only have one layer in one DSK.
- Picture in picture is limited in Tricaster, while on livestream you can have almost unlimited PIP.
- Support Facebook Live, you just need an account in FB.
- Can do bonding streaming if you use Livestream streaming platform
- The recent free 4.0 update Livestream will have builtin RTMP Server
- Web control on 4.0 update, so you can remote control the switcher anywhere from the web

However, following is the shortcoming as compared to Tricaster
Advantages of Tricaster over Livestream
- Virtual set with virtual zoom, this is not available in Livestream the only way to get around it is to get a third party virtual set but again only could do cut and no virtual zoom, this is the major winner
- The higher end model such as Tricaster 8000 support analog input and output (Many customers like this features because of their equipment only support only analog) ,although you can use a converter to solve this.
