Rumour of new GoPro Hero6 action camera to be launched in 2007 has turned true!

GoPro CEO Nick Woodman has just confirmed that the Hero 6 action camera will be released in 2017 during the recent announcement for 2016 company final earnings. It was a big surprise to all that there would not be another 2 year wait between GoPro action cameras generations like before, but the exact releasing date of Hero 6 has not be made known.

Woodman has officially named its to-be-launched camera, the HERO6 and also revealed that GoPro will release more action cameras and a range of new accessories besides the hyped Hero 6 in 2017. No concrete specifications and the released time frame for the new gadget has been shared.

Woodman has spilled the beans that GoPro will focus more on Virtual Reality (VR) and 360-degree video on its new product as current Hero 4 and Hero 5 which have a single wide-angle lens will need more than one camera to make 360-degree videos and it is hard to share those videos. It has been in Woodman's vision that the new action camera would equip with multi-lenses that can create a "spherical video" which allowed viewers to watch playback on a phone as in YouTube and Facebook viewing. Footages could be tracked by moving the phone around the positions and convert it to 2D video clips for easy sharing. He has called this vision the ultimate, ultimate GoPro which could be used to generate VR content.
