Avid direct-attach storage products are not run-of-the-mill drives found at your local computer store. They are robust, quality products designed with the editor in mind. During the qualification process - and as an ongoing practice during manufacturing and integration - we reject many drives that do not meet our quality criteria. Those sub-par drives go back into the marketplace and are sold by other vendors, meaning all drives sold under the same model number are not created equal!

Backwards Compatibility
Storage is an investment customers want to make use of for many years to come. While the newest drives and the newest editors will always supply the most optimal performance, we make every effort to maintain backwards compatibility by qualifying previous generation drives on each new Avid editing system release as well as qualifying every new capacity/new generation drive on older editing systems. We also incorporate new generation drive mechanisms into older product designs.

High-availability protection of content	Real-time parity RAID goes beyond conventional RAID protection for even greater peace of mind. With Avid VideoRAID, a disk drive failure is not a catastrophic event. The system will continue to operate without data loss and at full performance should a drive fail within the unit.
Full performance during drive rebuild	If an Avid VideoRAID drive failure does occur, simply swap out the bad drive module and the array will automatically begin a background reconstruction. Costly downtime is eliminated since the system is fully functional (at full real-time performance) during the reconstruction process. Once the rebuild is completed, Avid VideoRAID resumes full content protection. Typical RAID solutions from other vendors, in contrast, do not maintain full performance during reconstruction. This prevents continued use of the system and results in unproductive downtime.
Ultra320 SCSI bandwidth and innovative Multi-Stream Technology (MST)	Interface rates of up to 320 MB/s per channel ensure that Avid VideoRAID arrays meet the performance requirements of film, video, and broadcast production. Exclusive MST functionality is a sophisticated stream-handling algorithm that works with the system's on-board RAID controller(s) to support the simultaneous real-time playback of multiple streams of uncompressed SD and HD video.
Configuration flexibility	With a choice of drive capacity, 5- or 10-drive models, and up to four RTR320 or two RTR320X enclosures supported per CPU, customers can configure their system to meet their unique needs. Supported parity RAID-protected capacities range from 1TB to 8TB of usable storage on an Avid-qualified Windows- or Macintosh-based CPU.
Redundant power supplies (RTR320X model)	Robust, load-sharing power supplies offer added protection and reduce the stress on an individual supply. The array can operate without interruption on only one power supply, if required. Removable for easy service.
Removable controllers, drives, and power supplies	Field-replaceable components can be easily removed, making service a snap and maximizing uptime. Quick job changes can be made by simply swapping drive modules.
